In a class
What children do on the mats
Children warm up, practice movements, work with partners, and finish with a game. Classes vary by location.
- Line upA clear start helps the group know what comes first.
- Warm upMoving properly before doing anything harder.
- DrillOne movement, broken down, repeated, corrected.
- Partner workWorking with another child at a controlled pace.
- GameA game at the end that uses what they just did.

What they practice
Four things children practice in class
Children repeat movements, listen to instructions, and work with a partner. Coaches correct them as they go.
- Listening the first time and following an instruction.
- Repeating a movement after being corrected on it.
- Controlling their body when they are tired.
- Working with a partner without it turning into a contest.

Two ways in
Martial arts after school or as a separate class
Children in the after school program train before parent pickup. Children who are not in the program can come for a separate class.
How the afternoon worksQuestions
Experience, classes, disciplines, and age
- Does my child need experience?
- Tell us your child's age and location. The team will tell you whether there is a beginner class for them.
- What can a kids class involve?
- A class can include lining up, warming up, practicing a movement, partner or pad work, and a game. Classes vary by location.
- Which martial arts do you teach?
- The class names on the schedule above tell you what runs at each location. Ask the team if you want more detail on one.
- Is this the same as the after school program?
- Children in the after school block train as part of the afternoon. Classes also run on their own for children who are not in the after school program.
- What age can my child start?
- Age ranges vary by location. Send your child's age and the team will help you find the right class.
